Department of Family Medicine

Providing the Best Care for Families

We provide continuing and comprehensive care for individuals in the context of family and community. Our faculty are nationally known leaders in defining the future of primary care quality as evidenced by our involvement in Family Medicine practice-based research,  several recent Institute of Medicine committees, and the Future of Family Medicine Project.

Departmental programs are organized by our core missions: Clinical, Educational, and Research.

Our clinical programs include four Family Medicine practices, inpatient care, student health, medical coverage at the CeDAR substance treatment facility, cosmetics services, sports medicine clinics and team physician responsibilities, geriatric medicine, and palliative care in the inpatient, hospice and home setting.

Our educational programs include three separately accredited family medicine residencies, fellowships, and a thriving predoctoral program.  We also direct the School of Medicine's Rural Track, and direct or co-direct two of the clinical blocks in the predoctoral curriculum.   One of our residencies is a P4 (Preparing Personal Physicians for Practice) residency training innovation site.

Our research program supports three practice-based research networks, and we are affiliated with several additional networks. We have recently launched 2040 Partners for Health, a community-based participatory research program in the communities adjacent to our new Anschutz Medical Campus.

Leadership for the department is structured as an Executive Committee:

  • Frank V. deGruy, III, MD, Chair
  • Colleen Conry, MD, Senior Vice-chair
  • Kent Voorhees, MD, Vice Chair for Educational Programs
  • David West, PhD, Vice Chair for Research Programs
  • Mary Lutz, Department Administrator
