Women's Health Interest Group (WHIG)

The Women's Health Interest Group (WHIG) is a multi-disciplinary student interest group for those interested in learning more about Women's Health. It is run by a student volunteer Steering Committee. This committee is responsible for planning all events with the support of personnel in the Family Medicine Student Affairs Office, including Katie Watts, Program Assistant, and Michele M. Doucette, PhD, WHIG advisor.

An important activity of the WHIG is the monthly lecture series. These are noon-time talks open to the campus on various topics related to Women's Health.

The purpose of The University of Colorado Denver's Women's Health Interest Group will be to:
  • Encourage professional interest in Women's Health through education regarding the differences in the medical treatment of women as compared to men.
  • Promote awareness of the differences between healthcare for men and women.
  • Advance the discipline of Women's Health.
  • Encourage intellectual and social interaction between students, faculty, and professionals in forming discussions about gender and its relationship to health.
  • Promote career development in Women's Health with awareness and insight into different aspects of treatment for women.
  • Promote research and projects in Women's Health by serving as a liaison between the Women's Health Institute and the health sciences student community.
