Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is comprised of medical students interested or thinking about pursuing a career in Family Medicine. It is run by a student volunteer steering committee. This committee is responsible for planning all events with the support of personnel in the Family Medicine Student Affairs Office, including Katie Watts, Program Assistant and Dr. David Gaspar, FMIG advisor.

An important activity of the FMIG is the monthly Family Medicine lectures. These are noon-time talks open to the campus on various topics related to Family Medicine and Primary Care. Other activities sponsored by the FMIG are workshops on IVs, immunizations, casting and suturing.

The purpose of the FMIG is to:
  • Learn about the specialty of Family Medicine.
  • Facilitate contact with practicing family physicians & Family Medicine faculty.
  • Provide opportunities for students to gain experience in primary care outside of the standard curriculum.
  • Student members will begin meeting in the Fall to plan activities (Family Medicine lectures, Residency Fairs, etc.) and develop new ideas.
Support for the FMIG will be provided by the Department of Family Medicine. Our meetings are informal and fun.

The FMIG is supported in part by generous grants from the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians Foundation and the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.
