Rural and Community Care Clerkship
IDPT 7061
The four-week Rural & Community Care and the four-week
Adult Ambulatory Care Clerkships make up an eight-week primary care
block. Half of the assigned students will begin with the four-week Rural &
Community Care rotation and the other half will begin with Adult Ambulatory Care.
What is Expected of Students during the Rural & Community Care and Adult
Ambulatory Care Clerkships?
Students will learn a lot about caring for people and their illness in
both rural and urban communities. During both the Rural & Community Care and
the Adult Ambulatory Care rotations, students are expected to see the types
of patient problems seen in an office-based practice and to develop
expertise (appropriate to a 3rd year student) in the assessment and
management of those problems. Students will be expected to master a core
group of common symptoms and problems and perform and be evaluated on
physical exam skills.
