Research

Department of Family Medicine researchers study issues related to primary health care, such as health care quality, effectiveness, and practice redesign. We also have a strong focus on health services research to aid in the design and analysis of systems for health services delivery and financing.

Our research group includes 5 senior MD and PhD researchers, a PhD-level biostatistician, data analysts, research assistants, a technical writer, a grant manager, and an expert in communication in practice-based research networks (PBRNs).

Much of the DFM's research focuses on using PBRNs - our department is home to three PBRNs and supports SNOCAP - an umbrella organization that facilitates collaboration and support for five PBRNs. We also hold two health services research master contracts from the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and serve as a federally designated PBRN Research Center and as a Comparative Effectiveness Research Center.
